Still underway, this project began in the Spring of 2019. Originally a spec home, we implemented several changes to give the existing space more character and better suit the client’s needs. They were transitioning from a traditional space and sought a cleaner, more modern aesthetic for this new home, so we let that goal guide initial upgrades. These improvements included plastering the dining room, adding custom paneling in the entry and crafting built-ins for the home office. Wallpaper and paint schemes were also implemented throughout.

Functionality was paramount for entertaining, be it grand events or intimate dinners. Selecting durable furniture and materials became our strategy. Careful selection of each piece played a vital role, like the resilient white cowhide rug in the dining room. Antique cabinets and tables brought patina and character to the design. We added layers through plaster wall finishes, wallcoverings, and fresh paint colors, breathing life into the space.

Art selection was an exhilarating process, with the owners building a collection that bridged their differing tastes—one favoring color, the other gravitating toward neutrality. Art became a conduit to infuse vibrancy while retaining a balanced backdrop.

The dining room was a particular challenge. Its deceptive simplicity demanded each element to stand independently while flowing harmoniously. As a cherished space, we worked to make it feel distinct without disrupting the first-floor layout.

Designing for beloved, repeat clients brought its own joy. And a departure from their usual style presented an exciting challenge, reflecting how both our tastes have matured over the years.

At its core, this home’s tale narrates the transformation of a white canvas into a sophisticated sanctuary, rich with layers of intrigue. The finished design feels united while elegantly capturing the couple’s contrasting preferences.
